Membership Eligibility
To ensure the homogeneity of risks insured by PAMIA eligibility for membership is restricted to individuals or firms meeting the following criteria. The Board has a discretion to admit individuals or firms not meeting these criteria if they consider their practices to be compatible with those of the generality of members.
Individuals
- Must be a UK Chartered Patent Attorney or a UK Registered Patent Agent or an Irish Registered Patent Agent or a Member of I.T.M.A.
- Must predominantly undertake patent or trade mark work
- Must undertake at least half of their work in the UK, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland, other European Union countries, the European Economic Area, Singapore and Hong Kong
Partnerships
- At least half the partners must be UK Chartered Patent Attorneys or UK Registered Patent Agents or Irish Registered Patent Agents or Members of I.T.M.A.
- The firm must predominantly undertake patent or trade mark work
- The firm must undertake at least half of their work in the UK, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland, other European Union countries, the European Economic Area, Singapore and Hong Kong
Limited Companies
- At least half the directors must be UK Chartered Patent Attorneys or UK Registered Patent Agents or Irish Registered Patent Agents or Members of I.T.M.A.
- The qualified directors must own at least half the equity in the company
- The company must predominantly undertake patent or trade mark work
- The company must undertake at least half of its work in the UK, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland, other European Union countries, the European Economic Area, Singapore and Hong Kong
Limited Liability Partnerships
- At least half the members must be UK Chartered Patent Attorneys or UK Registered Patent Agents or Irish Registered Patent Agents or Members of I.T.M.A.
- The qualified members must own at least half the equity in the LLP
- The LLP must predominantly undertake patent or trade mark work
- The LLP must undertake at least half of its work in the UK, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland, other European Union countries, the European Economic Area, Singapore and Hong Kong
