PAMIA is a mutual insurance company insuring UK and Irish trade mark and patent attorneys in private practice.

Established in 1989, PAMIA now provides professional indemnity insurance to over 350 firms, making PAMIA by far the leading insurer of UK and Irish patent and trade mark attorneys.

PAMIA is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority. PAMIA is controlled by a Board of non-executive Directors elected by the Members. The Directors have appointed Thomas Miller Professional Indemnity, an independent firm with no financial interest in PAMIA’s business, to manage PAMIA’s day-to-day affairs and advise the Board on insurance and regulatory issues.

The Managers are remunerated by a fixed annual fee agreed with the Board

Why choose PAMIA?

PAMIA provides expert claims support, competitively priced premiums and insurance cover tailored to meet the specific requirements of UK and Irish patent and trade mark attorneys in private practice.

Expert Claims Support

PAMIA’s specialist claims team manages all claims. Given that members own PAMIA, the claims team takes a supportive approach to any claim, working with members to help achieve the best possible outcome.

PAMIA’s claims team has an excellent reputation for successfully defending claims. They also help PAMIA’s members to resolve disputes and help them to avoid potential problems recurring.

Sound Finances

PAMIA is financed by premiums and investment income earned on its reserves. The entire premium is paid into a fund in which the members retain an immediate interest.

Through expert claims management and prudent investment, PAMIA has built up a robust reserve over 35years. To protect its funds from the unlikely event of large losses, PAMIA also purchases reinsurance, which is placed by the brokers, Willis.

Competitive Premiums

As a mutual, PAMIA is a not for profit organisation with no shareholders. This means that premiums can be offered at significantly lower levels than commercial rates.

Individual claims records are not taken into account in assessing the premium paid by each member.

Tailored Cover

PAMIA provides professional indemnity insurance tailored to meet the specific requirements of UK and Irish patent and trade mark attorneys in private practice.

PAMIA’s professional indemnity insurance meets the regulatory requirements of IPReg, the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland and regulators in other jurisdictions in which members operate.
